Kerning and Leading

Kerning is the process of adjusting of the space between letters in a typeface, to make them visually spaced correctly. Kerning adjusts the space between individual letter forms, while tracking (letter-spacing) adjusts spacing uniformly over a range of characters. Without Kerning, it would be hard to read words because all the letters would be too close together.

Leading is an essential design aspect that determines how text is spaced vertically in lines. Leading is important keeping lines a certain distance away. If lines where too close together of to far apart, it could confuse readers and cause eye strain.
